Noordduinen - Nature

The De Noordduinen nature area forms a peaceful green dune belt of around 73 hectares in the heart of Koksijde. Despite its location between residential areas, campsites, holiday accommodation and a military base, the area feels surprisingly natural and relaxed.
What can you expect in De Noordduinen?
- Peaceful dune nature: Walk through old, overgrown dunes with winding paths, open grasslands, flower-filled valleys and sheltered spots among sea buckthorn and hawthorn.
- Plenty of flowers and birds: Especially in spring and summer, wild flowers attract many butterflies, bees and other insects. Songbirds and birds of prey are also regularly seen here.
Culture nearby: On the edge of the area you will find the Abdijmuseum Ten Duinen and the Zuid-Abdijmolen. This makes it easy to combine a walk with a visit to these historic sights.
- Lovely walking connections: The Noordduinen connect with other walking areas around Koksijde, such as the Hoge Blekker, the Schipgatduinen and the route towards the seafront.
- Great for photographers: In the early morning and evening, the low sunlight, rolling dunes and distinctive vegetation create beautiful atmospheric views.
Practical information
- Starting point and parking: A practical option is parking next to Cinema Koksijde. From there, you can easily combine a walk through the dunes with a visit to the museum and the Zuid-Abdijmolen.
